OK… I feel old.

You see, I don’t actually feel old. I feel about the same as I felt when I was 18. And, I actually find it fun to run into events that highlight cultural and life experience differences based on age. When there is too big an age difference and you don’t share the same common ground.

As a side note, why do older men date really young women? I can’t imagine why? What do they talk about? Wait. What? They don’t talk? Ooooohhhh…. I get it. Anyway, back to my point…

I get a kick out of encountering differences in cultural outlook based on age.

On this day in 1894, Coca-Cola started to be served in bottles. Yes, that’s a long time ago. On Sunday there was a couple in the restaurant (mid-20s?). They had Cokes. As I went to clear the bottles she asked, “Can I keep the bottle?” Sure. No problem. She went on to say, “That’s how they used to serve Coke back in the day isn’t it?”

Yes. It is. As in, back the late 20th century. Or, back when I was young. Coke was always in bottles. In fact, I remember the very first time I saw a plastic 1 liter bottle. It was the summer of 1983. I was at the coast in the navy. I went around bopping my colleagues on the head with it because, like me, they had never seen a plastic bottle. They would FREAK OUT thinking that I was about to hit them with a glass bottle. Woohoo. Pure comedy.

I find moments like this really fun.

We have Coke and Diet Coke in 355 ml bottles. This bottle Coke only makes available to restuarants.

And, for the record, I am 48. I celebrate my First Annual 49th Birthday this coming Saturday.

Dont feel bad, Dave; I remember when milk came in bottles also, AND when they used to deliver bread and dairy products door-to-door! I’m 57; I dont feel old either!

I do not remember milk in bottles … THAT is what seperates us. I did, however, enjoy milk delivery to my door.

I remember going into the local soda shop and ordering a coke float with my allowance. They had just switched from fountain drinks to glass bottles and I was sad cause when they had the fountain drinks he would always pour me a bit into a cup but with the bottles there was non left over just to have as a cool drink on a Saturday afternoon. I also remember when Milk use to be delivered in bags…..We never ran out of milk when we had the home delivery as a child and now I am finding that we always seem to be running out of milk…..Loved the home delivery of Milk products as when the kids were younger I never had to bundle them up on a cold day just to run to the corner store for a jug of milk!!

I second what Melissa said :) I grew up on PEI and have super fond memories of the glass bottled pop. It felt right to have a real bottle back on the table tonight!
