Which eight people should I let go.
Regular readers of this blog will know that when you order at The Flying Banzini we don’t ask your name … we tell you who you are.
You get the next name in the box and when your order is ready, that’s how we find you. When you are assigned your name you are given a boarding pass. It has your new name and occupation on the front. On the back it has two trivie questions and a general discussion questions. They look something like this (the formatting is a little different than what you see here).
My contract with the printers is for 100 collated boarding passes. But, I have 108 names on the list. I MUST drop eight of these names off the list.
Which eight would you drop (even one or two suggestions is helpful). You might drop someone because you worry that assigning someone this name might be offensive? You might drop a name becasuse you have no idea who this person is? Whatever… please help me drop some names off this list. Suggest away.

Nobody’s gonna want to be Amy Winehouse! Bad karma…
Anne Hathaway, Buffy, Hugh , Will Farrell. No value in these 4
Amy Winehouse, Dee Snider, Caesar, Lucy Stone, Scooby Doo, Freud, Tom Jones, Valentina Tereshkova
A couple of spelling errors
Will Ferrell
Steven Spielberg
Sammy Davis Jr.
Kevin Spacey
And for what’s worth, I could do without Winnie the Pooh.
Amy Winehouse, Anne Hathaway (I like her acting, but she can be in the next generation of names), Jon Bon Jovi, Sidney Crosby, Tommy Hunter, Valentina Tereshkova, Michael Buble, Gene Simmons
I’m going to assume that “Sammy David Jr” is a typo for Sammy DAVIS Jr”.
I’d drop Amy Winehouse and Dee Snider and would probably swap James T. Kirk for William Shatner.
Thanks for catching typos. I am proofing now but as EVERYONE who reads this blog knows… if it’s a Dave entry there will be typos. No matter how hard I try…
Winnie the Pooh? What can you have against Winnie the Pooh?
I jest… one of the problems (I now realize) is that asking for help is asking people to tell me who to divest my interest in. It will hurt but someone has to go.
The easy mark is anything Harry Potter - great book, not life changing though.
Others … and I might get boos for this:
Amy Winehouse - nice voice, stupid deeds - I’d turn that card in. I don’t want to be her.
Gandolf - too much Harry - go Tolkin if you must
Brad Pitt - pretty boy
Cleopatra - I’d take Liz Taylor
Caesar
That was fun. Do you have more stuff like this?
Bending the rules, but hey why not: going for a little more Canadian content. You could ask your loyal fans to come up with the trivia questions for the additions.
Delete:
- Anne Hathaway
- Brad Pitt
- Charlton Heston
- Dean Martin
- Gene Simmons
- Steven Spielberg
- Winona Ryder
- Halle Berry
- Hugh Grant
- Jon Bon Jovi
- Kevin Spacey
- Madonna
- Mark Zuckerberg
Add:
- Chris Hadfield
- Gary Carter
- kd lang
- Margaret Atwood
- Rick Mercer
- Jim Cuddy
I’d get rid of Amy Winehouse, Charlton Heston, Hugh Grant, john Candy, and Rita MacNeil.
I’d also dispense with “sir’” or include it for all sirs, as in Sean Connery and John a MacDonald.
Please keep Pooh!
If you include him, I’d simply say Charlie Parker.
I agree that more Canadian content is preferable and like Heather’s suggestions.
Come on people, lighten up! Amy Winehouse was an amazingly talented young woman. Who among the rest of the list didn’t or doesn’t have problems of one kind or the other. I agree with the poster who suggested more Canadian content though.
Charlton Heston - great actor but his recent incarnation a little scary. In the “who are they category” - Harriet the Spy and Valentina Tereshkova.
Maybe removing any names that may draw the ire of the owners of the intellectual property from whence they came?
I have looked into the intellectual propoerty issues prior to embarking on this path. I do not think that there is an intellectual proporty issue.
I may be wrong, though. If you know something, please refer to a source.
I think I am in the same area as, for instance, Trivial Pursuit — allowable use that does not damage to any individual, nor am I profiting on any individual’s name.
But, I take intellectual property very seriously (how many Ottawa restaurants have paid their SOCAN licesne?) so if I am missinformed, please let me know.
Winehouse, Sandra Bullock, Hugh Grant, Buffy, JK Rowling,Dee Snider. After that it gets a lot tougher.
And good luck from Team Canuck!!
