The emotional lift continues as Ottawa emerges from hibernation
As noted previously, February was tough. March has not been stellar but last week showed signs of recovering. Thursday was a busy day. Friday? Wow. Friday was among our best days ever. We were all feeling positively giddy. Customers, full tables, busy staff… it was a good feeling.
Saturday, though, the trend did not continue. A day of icky rain held people inside and things were a little slow again.
All that said, March is showing signs of recovering. The week just concluded brought us back to within a whisker of breaking even. I am confident that we are in for a great spring and summer at The Flying Banzini, serving Wellington West.
Another little lift happened on Friday. I was picking up my new takeout menus and cheesecake cards from Staples in Kanata. It’s close to where I live and I have done all my printing there. I cannot say enough about the staff and service. Although a big chain, I have come to think of the Kanata Staples my little local print shop thanks to their level of service. Thank you.
At the counter and another customer notices my printing. She asks if I am the owner of The Flying Banzini. I am! Two days prior she has purchased eighteen of our cheesecake and thought they were fantastic. Cool. It made me feel very proud of my little restaurant to bump into someone so physically far removed from our location who knew of us and liked us. Thank you Staples customer.
She received the first even free mini-cheesecake card.
Hoping for good weather… Although, I can’t set up The Flying Banzini patio anytime soon because the furniture is all on my patio at home and it’s still covered in snow.

Much thanks for your support. Word of mouth matters more than anything. I am grateful that you care enough about my restaurant (good or bad) to have taken the time to read this blog.
Hello! I am heading to your restaurant tonight with a group of girlfriends and I can already tell I am going to love it! Your positive, caring and enthusiastic outlook is inspiring! I love supporting people like you. Fingers crossed the weather improves soon! P.s. I’ve also read your post about the Paying It Forward Jar and I love the idea! Have you asked the staff how they feel about the potential for some customers to give to the jar and forgo a larger tip?..Perhaps they will be open to it and want to partake in paying it forward! This may change over time of course but could be worth reaching out to them.
